Historical Society Programs 2011-2012
October 19, 2011 Dan West will relate the history of the “Manatee River Fair” and some agricultural highlights.
November 16, 2011 MCHS member Don Thompson knows the history of “Egmont Key” and its development. He even has a slide show about it to show us.
January 18, 2012 Mary Bowers had “Miss Eva Gates” as her 6th Grade teacher, who related many stories of the Gamble Mansion, the Judah P. Benjamin escape story and tales of other Manatee County notables.
February 15, 2012 MCHS member Pam Gibson on the historical journeys of the Central Library’s “Eaton Florida History Collection” and will display some unknown treasurers from the collection.
March 21, 2012 Rachel Harrison will describe the history of the lovely “Crosley Mansion” and tales of the Crosley family.
April 18, 2012 OUR ANNUAL PICNIC! We are back at the Manatee Village Historical Park with guest speaker Melisa Potter. She is an descendant of the Stephens Family who built the Stephens House. Many of you know Melisa, who works at the Historical Park.
May 16, 2012 Donna Courtney Simpson, who grew up in Ellenton and lives in Parrish, will speak on the history and Centennial of the landmark Anna Maria City Pier. Our Society really does cover all of Manatee County!
